Unlike the days you had to travel a far distance to get to the home decor stores, today the home decor stores can come to you. And I'm not referring to the internet either although that's another option to find many home decor stores. No, what I'm referring to is the fact that over the past decade and a half, give or take, that a great many home decor stores have popped up all over the place, just tantalizing you to walk in and take a peek.

And that's one the biggest problems with home decor stores. Once you enter one you never seem to be able to drag   yourself out and you just might find that you're spending a great deal of time in there just browsing. And if it were just limited to simply browsing then you would probably be alright, but the fact of the matter is that there aren't too many people who are able to walk through the home decor stores without coming out on the other end with a truck load of items they've bought. And if that hasn't emptied your pocket book then you're very fortunate.

All too often you'll discover yourself coming out with some little bit of something or other that you just couldn't resist.

The answer, I've learned when going to these home decor stores is not leaving your cash behind at home, but to go in with a clear and succinct plan on what you're going to do.

Are you shopping to buy or just looking, and will it break your bank if you indulge on some little odds and ends.

And if you are going to purchase something do you know what type of thing it is that you plan to buy. If you aren’t sure, then you should probably be window shopping first.

Even then you should go in with a clear picture of what sort of thing you're looking for and how much money you're able to spend. This can to some extent limit your spending tendencies in the home decor stores.

And if you discover that you're still unable to help yourself, then perhaps you might want to go shopping in the safety of your own home, through the internet.

This method of shopping can help control those spending sprees slightly more than anything else - sometimes. The fact of the matter is that when you enter into any of the home decor stores or even visit their websites the main thing that you will want to do is to buy, buy, and buy.

And who can resist with all of the bright colours and unique patterns available today. Not to mention the sales! Who can resist a sign that says 50% off? You enter a store and you are prepared to go directly to the back of the store to purchase the duly needed throw rug for your kitchen…you have self control.

On the way you pass the bath towels and they are on sale; buy two get one free. Well, your towels are getting a bit tattered so you really do need new ones, and look, they are on sale.

Of course with new bath towels you may as well get matching wash cloths and hand towels, and if you get those you will need a new shower curtain and look, they have a matching waste basket…you are on your way. You leave the store with a brand new bathroom and a smile on your face until you get home and realize you forgot the throw rug for the kitchen!
