Sponge
Painting
When you hear the words sponge painting what
kind of wonderful images is brought up for
you?
Is it of your younger days when you were
allowed freedom with the paints and the colours before your
mother discovered you and stopped you from painting on the
walls? Or do you get a feeling of adventure and imagine sponge
painting to be something fairly out of the
ordinary?
Well, if you're a painter or an interior
designer of any variety you know that the reality of it is
somewhere closer to the second guess than it is to the first
one.
Although there is a slight correlation between
these two chains of though. Sponge painting consists of
painting on the walls but it's still not something that most
people would let their children near, for the simple reason
that there is a rationale to this madness.
With sponge painting the madness resides in
the fact that when using the sponge to paint your walls, you're
hoping for a pattern of sorts to appear, even if it is only a
somewhat random pattern.
This means that handing the sponge over to
your children just isn't going to come out quite the
same.
So how do you set about sponge painting and is
it really that difficult? It's not actually difficult and there
are many ways to set out doing it. Like I said before what
you're attempting to achieve here is a certain look and how you
get that also depends on what type of interior design pattern
you had in mind and also on what kind of sponge you
use.
For a more
rustic look you would use a certain set of colourhs as well as
a certain sized sponge.
One way to begin sponge painting is to paint
portions of the wall and slowly sponge the paint in either a
circular pattern, a vertical or horizontal pattern, or even
randomly to achieve the look you were hoping
for.
Sometimes this may take considerably more time
than you figured it would and you might need to take a little
bit more caution as well, but don't worry it will all come out
alright at the end of the day.
Sponge painting the walls can be fun and most
of the time is simple to do. The effect you end up with is also
something quite different from the other painting techniques
and quite delightful if done properly.
Try it out one day and see how you fare, if
you don’t like it you can always paint over
it.
But be watchful if your kids see you doing
this they might get the notion to have a go at sponge painting
themselves, then who knows how your walls let alone your home
will turn out with their version of sponge
painting.
So the best thing that you can do is to wait
until you’re alone at home before you start your sponge
painting masterpiece and never tell your secret of how you got
this great new look.
Sponge painting is a fairly simple process but
it looks like it was done by a high paid designer and not by
you who knows little to nothing about painting let alone sponge
painting.
It can be your secret, we won’t tell that you
got everyone out of the house, donned your painting clothes,
got out your paint and sponges and had a go at it. With
this ideally forgiving technique even the beginning painter can
sponge paint and come out with a great new look that is fresh
and innovative. Now that you have the great new walls
what will you do about the rest of your interior
design?
