Copper countertops
Are you looking for something truly unusual for your kitchen? Do you want something
that’s naturally environmentally safe and relatively affordable? If this sounds like you, then perhaps you should
consider copper countertops.
Why should you choose copper countertops? For one, they give
your kitchen a look unlike any other. You can choose from a wide variety of complex hues, from bright
red to darker browns. Designers also create gorgeous textures by hammering the surface, creating a lovely
scale-like effect. They can provide a warm, intimate glow to any room, creating a sense of ambiance like you’ve
never seen before.
Additionally, copper countertops are much like wooden countertops in that they age
very attractively. Bright reds gradually fade to a lovely antique brownish hue. Scratches and dents create a
fatigued look that is actually quite attractive. Even effects such as tarnishing create a delightfully aged look.
However, don’t concern yourself over the effects of tarnish or rust, as while the effect creates texture and adds
charm, it will not flake off.
However, don’t think that those scratches or dents contribute
toward unsanitary conditions by any means. You can rest easy in the knowledge that copper countertops are also
naturally antimicrobial metals, making them ideal for busy kitchens and other areas of your home. However, keep in
mind that while copper is ideal for fighting bacteria, it does not prevent all diseases. This means that regular
washing and antibacterial sprays are still necessary.
Copper countertops are also incredibly heat resistant, which means you can install
surfaces near stoves, heaters, and other hot surfaces without fear of scorching or otherwise damaging the metal. In
addition to this, copper is also naturally stain resistant as well, as its surface does not absorb liquids or food
spills.
However, keep in mind that copper is heat resistant, not heat proof. Never put hot
pots or pans directly on its surface. It’s also not a good idea to resort to harsh, acidic soaps or cleaners, as
this may bleach or stain the surface.
Finally, unlike most stone surfaces, copper countertops contain absolutely no trace
of radon radiation. Radon is a dangerous gas commonly found in mined substances such as granite or quartz. With
copper, however, you will never have to worry.
How do you perform maintenance on your copper countertops? Their upkeep is fairly
simple. As copper is a soft metal, scratches and dents are fairly common. However, fingerprints and smudges also
tend to show up easily as well. To prevent this, occasionally buffing your copper countertops will keep them
gleaming beautifully.
